The new DISH® Tailgater® Pro premium satellite antenna is designed for ease of use, so you can enjoy your favorite television programming from your RV without difficulty. Here are some helpful tips to consider during the setup process. Remember to also read the owner’s manual for a step-by-step guide before you begin installing your new antenna.
Location is an important factor to consider before installation. Obstructions such as people, vehicles, trees, buildings or any tall objects can block signal. For best results, point the handle of your antenna north for faster scan time. Your antenna should have a clear line of sight to the southern sky from your RV roof. Also, try to install the antenna close to the main receiver to minimize coax length. Ensure your location is as ideal as possible before you begin a scan. If you move the DISH Tailgater Pro during or after the scan process, you will have to perform a new scan to reacquire signal and restore programming.
For actual roof installation, keep these helpful tips in mind as you go:
- Do not bend coax cables when routing or overtighten connections.
- If you’re permanently installing your antenna onto your RV roof, do not install unit on roof with rubber feet in place.
Locating a Signal
The DISH Tailgater Pro features an ultramodern clear cover which allows you to see exactly where the dish is pointing. This design allows you to troubleshoot much easier knowing whether the antenna is pointing in the right direction or not.
Before locating a signal, make sure your receiver’s power cord is plugged in, remote batteries are properly inserted and not worn, and the coax cable between your receiver and the antenna is properly connected and hand tightened (do not overtighten).
Make sure your TV is on the correct input that your DISH Tailgater Pro is connected to. Check input by pressing Source/Input button located on the side, back, or front of your TV, or your TV’s remote. For first time receiver use, you may get other screens prompting you to do things before the Mobile Antenna Setup screen appears (such as instructions on pairing your remote to the receiver).
On subsequent use, if the Mobile Antenna Setup screen does not appear:
- Wally® receivers: Unplug the Wally for 10 seconds, and then plug back in. (It may take several minutes for the screen to appear).
- ViP® receivers: Press MENU, 6, 1, 1. When the Point Dish screen appears, highlight “Check Switch” and press Select.
Some troubleshooting options will depend on the receiver you are using with your antenna. Consult your receiver’s owner’s manual and other support documents for best practices.
Maintenance & Upkeep
After installation, general upkeep of the antenna is minimal. Never power wash it. Instead, keep the enclosure clean from dirt, bugs, and other debris by hand washing with mild soap and water. KING Dome Magic® may also be applied to help keep snow and rain from building up on the surface.
If you suspect something is wrong with the antenna’s internal parts, do NOT open the dome, as this voids the Limited Warranty. Opening the dome also exposes the delicate parts and wires to moisture and debris. Bring it to KING or a KING certified dealer for repairs.
If your system is inactive for an extended period of time, you may have to call DISH Customer Service at 1-800-333-DISH (3474) to reauthorize your receiver.
