How to Plan the Perfect Spring Camping Trip
Spring is a wonderful time to go camping, but as the weather can be unpredictable, it is important to be prepared. Despite the extra work to make certain all bases are covered, camping in the spring has many benefits.
After being cooped up inside for the winter, camping is a perfect way to kick off the start of spring. The flowers are beginning to bloom and the fresh, crisp air is just the cure for cabin fever. It is a perfect opportunity to dust off the tent or fire up the RV.
Whether camping in a tent or in an RV, spring camping requires a well thought out wardrobe. Make sure to bring plenty of warm, lightweight layers and a good raincoat. Pack long underwear if the predicted temperatures are cold. Bring along comfortable, waterproof footwear and at least one other pair of shoes. Body heat escapes quickly through an exposed head, so be sure to pack a hat or head protection.
If you plan to camp in a tent, a good quality sleeping bag is imperative. Find a sleeping bag with a temperature rating of a few degrees below the lowest temperature you expect to encounter. It is always better to be too warm than too cold when far from home. The ground may be cold as it begins to thaw out, so a camp pad to put between your sleeping bag and the ground is essential.
Location is also an important factor when planning a spring camping trip. Look at reviews online for additional tips specific to the campground you decide. Check the weather the week leading up to your trip and make any changes to your camping gear if needed.
Most importantly, have fun!
